This guild rose to prominence in the early days of Elven history on Nexus. Today, it is one of many guilds, and is the foundation of the biggest Elvish city.
Noble and Mighty Guild
The Noble and Mighty Guild is one of many that formed at the start of Elven history on Nexus and still prospers today. The guild was largely so successful due to its proximity to the Alabaster Mountains, as this is where the Dwarves took residence when they arrived. The Guild immediately built relations with the Dwarves, and both communities greatly benefitted from each other. The Guild is associated with the Alabaster Workshop*, as their members have been involved with workshop events since its founding.
Notably, the historical Elvish hero Adric Lonterra** was an early member of the Noble and Mighty Guild.
Today, the Guild is sometimes referred to as just “Noble and Mighties,” or just the “Nobles.”
*The Alabaster Workshop is the current name for the place where the ancient tradition of festivals of competitive metalworking and crafts between the elves and dwarves began. In the modern day, this place has been transformed into a beautiful stadium-like arrangement.
Built around a clearing at the foot of a mountain, the clearing has been taken over by a huge amphitheater constructed of gray-white stone mined from the adjacent mountain (hence the name “alabaster”). Within the mountain, there is a system of tunnels and caves that were mined out by the dwarves for the stone that was used to construct the amphitheater. Since then, those caves have been filled with various forges and masonries, places for dwarven smiths and craftsmen of various inclinations to finish their pieces before presenting them during the festival. Similarly, across the clearing, there has been constructed a system of buildings in the boughs of the trees above, a place for the elvish competitors to finish their works before the festival. The two areas are, of course, not restricted to those of either species, but most competitors are fiercely protective of their products and their secrets, so most consider going to the other side’s facilities to be an option of last resort. Despite the considerable competitive spirit of many of the participants, the festival remains a celebration of the different cultures and of their progress in their various crafts.
**Adric Lonterra was an elvish man who was born to one of the first generations of elves who were born on Nexus. Early in life, he displayed a particularly keen eye for detail and a naturally quiet step, and so was trained to become a hunter. While he was quick to notice wild game and hardly ever noticed on approach, he had a tendency to wait too long before taking down his quarry, leading to more than a few failed hunts in his youth. However, this tendency would save his, and his fellow hunters’, lives one day.
Nearing the completion of his training, Adric and a few other hunters went out and caught the trail of a pack of maxar. As they approached, Adric had that sense again, that reluctance to make their move. As he fell back, the others stopped to ensure that he would be alright before returning to the clearing where the maxar had stopped. Moments later, a Greatshell, having approached with unusual stealth, crashed through the trees on the other side of the clearing, sending the maxar and the hunters scattering. They managed to lose it in the forest, but Adric’s reluctance to engage meant that the hunters weren’t close enough to be caught.
After the close encounter and the completion of his training, Adric found himself fascinated with the enormous creatures and devoted much of his time to learning their behaviors and physical capabilities. His teachings were the first that allowed elvish hunting teams to consistently avoid the beasts, such that they would be passed down and used for generations, and would eventually lead to the first successful hunt of a Greatshell, which Adric led himself.
